How to Prepare for a
Junk Removal Appointment

A little prep goes a long way. Here's what to do before we arrive.

Most junk removal jobs go smoothly with zero prep on the customer's end. But a little preparation — even just 15 or 20 minutes before we arrive — can make the whole appointment faster, less expensive, and less stressful for you. Here's what we recommend.

1. Decide What's Going Before We Get There

The most common source of delays on a junk removal job is indecision at the moment of truth. When we're standing in front of a pile, it's easy to second-guess items that seemed obvious before we arrived. Walk through the space the day before and make firm decisions about what stays and what goes. If you're uncertain about something, set it aside in a "maybe" pile — but try to minimize the maybes.

If other people in the household have opinions about certain items, resolve those conversations before we show up. We can hold the truck while you make calls, but it slows down the job and occasionally affects the price if a half-hour delay turns into longer.

2. Clear a Path to the Items

We do all the heavy lifting, but if a pathway to the items is completely blocked, we may need to do some preliminary moving before we can get to the real work. If you can clear a walkway to the main pile — enough for one person to walk through — it helps us move faster and reduces the risk of bumping into things that aren't going.

For items in tight spaces like between furniture or behind stacked boxes, just point us in the right direction and we'll figure it out. But a basic path from the door to the pile makes a real difference.

3. Know Your Access Points

Think through how we'll get from our truck to the items and back. Is there a gate code? Is the driveway long enough for our truck? Is the item in a basement with a narrow staircase? Will we need to come through the house to reach the backyard? Let us know any of this when you book — it helps us plan the crew size and equipment we need.

For second-floor items like mattresses and furniture, we handle those routinely, but knowing in advance lets us bring the right crew so we're not short-handed on a staircase.

4. Separate Items You Want Donated

If there are items in the haul that are still usable — clothing, furniture in decent condition, household goods — let us know and we'll flag those for donation before heading to the dump. We drop donated items off ourselves at no extra charge. You don't have to do anything other than point them out.

If you have an entire load that's mostly donation-ready items, it's worth mentioning when you book. Donation-only loads are priced differently than disposal runs.

5. Note Any Hazardous Items

Most household items are fine. But if there are paint cans, propane tanks, motor oil, pesticides, or anything else that could be hazardous, don't include those in the haul without telling us first. Most of those items require special disposal and can't legally go in a standard dump truck. We'll tell you how to handle them — often a local hazmat drop-off day is the right answer.

Similarly, old refrigerators and air conditioners contain refrigerant that requires special handling by a certified technician before disposal. We can still take them, but it factors into the pricing.

6. Be Ready to Make the Call When We Arrive

We walk through what's going with you before we start loading — this is when you confirm the price and point out anything that's NOT supposed to go. That walkthrough only takes a few minutes, but it's important. Make sure someone who can make decisions is present at the start of the job.

Once you approve the quote, we work independently until everything is loaded and done. You don't need to supervise — a lot of customers start other projects while we work.

That's it. Junk removal is meant to be easy — that's the whole point of hiring someone. But a few minutes of prep on your end makes the whole thing go faster and usually saves a little money too. If you have questions before your appointment, call or text us at (214) 402-5501.
