The honest answer to "can you take this?" is yes about 95% of the time. We haul furniture, appliances, electronics, construction debris, yard waste, mattresses, exercise equipment, and pretty much anything else that comes out of a house or garage. But there are a handful of materials that we legally cannot haul in a standard junk removal truck — and those restrictions exist for good reason. Here's the full list with alternatives for each one.
Hazardous Household Chemicals
Paint cans, pesticides, herbicides, motor oil, antifreeze, pool chemicals, and similar products can't go in our truck due to hazardous waste regulations. These require special disposal facilities to prevent environmental contamination.
What to do: The Dallas area has periodic Household Hazardous Waste collection events. Check your city's website — Cedar Hill, Grand Prairie, and Dallas all participate. Many auto parts stores also accept used motor oil for free recycling.
Propane Tanks
Full or partially full propane tanks — whether grill-size or larger — are a fire and explosion risk and can't legally be transported in a dump truck.
What to do: Blue Rhino and AmeriGas exchange tanks at most hardware stores and grocery stores. For empty tanks, many scrap metal facilities will accept them once the valve is removed. Call first.
Refrigerants (Refrigerators, AC Units, Dehumidifiers)
Appliances containing refrigerant — refrigerators, freezers, window AC units, and dehumidifiers — require a certified technician to recover the refrigerant before disposal. We can haul these items, but there is a small additional charge to cover the certified refrigerant recovery. This is a federal requirement under the Clean Air Act.
What to do: Just let us know when you book. We factor it in upfront so there's no surprise at the end. Many appliance retailers also offer haul-away of old refrigerators when delivering new ones.
Tires
Loose tires — not attached to a vehicle — can't go to standard landfills in Texas without additional fees. We don't accept loose tires on standard jobs.
What to do: Most tire shops will accept old tires for a small per-tire fee. Auto parts stores like O'Reilly and AutoZone often have tire recycling programs as well.
Medical Waste and Sharps
Used needles, syringes, lancets, or other sharps cannot be placed in regular trash or junk removal. This protects the safety of our crew and waste facility workers.
What to do: Many pharmacies in the DFW area have sharps disposal programs. CVS and Walgreens often sell sharps disposal containers and accept them for drop-off. The City of Cedar Hill's website also lists disposal resources.
Asbestos-Containing Materials
Older homes (pre-1980) may contain asbestos in insulation, floor tiles, ceiling tiles, or pipe wrap. Disturbed asbestos is a serious health hazard and must be handled by a licensed abatement contractor before removal.
What to do: If you suspect asbestos in your home, have it tested before any demolition or renovation. Licensed asbestos abatement contractors in DFW can test, contain, and properly dispose of it.
Ammunition and Firearms
We don't haul firearms or live ammunition. Even well-intentioned handling during a cleanout can create safety and legal issues.
What to do: Local gun shops often accept unwanted firearms for transfer or sale. Many police departments have gun buyback programs or can advise on legal surrender. For ammunition, local shooting ranges will sometimes accept it.
Everything Else? We've Got It.
Outside the items above, we haul just about everything else: all furniture, mattresses, appliances (with the refrigerant note above), electronics and TVs, construction debris, yard waste, exercise equipment, hot tubs, storage unit contents, and general household junk of any kind.
If you're unsure about a specific item, just ask before you book. Call or text us at (214) 402-5501 and we'll give you a straight answer.
