An old hot tub is one of the few things around a house that most people correctly guess they can't handle alone — and they're right. Here's what removal actually costs and what happens on the day.
Why Hot Tubs Aren't a Standard Haul
An empty hot tub shell typically weighs 300–800+ pounds on its own, and most are plumbed into a GFCI breaker and sometimes hardwired electrical. It has to be disconnected, drained, and broken down into sections before it can be loaded — you can't just tip it onto a truck in one piece.
What It Typically Costs
Most hot tub removals fall in the 3/4-to-full load range, roughly $400–$700, depending on the tub's size, condition, and how accessible it is — a tub on a ground-level patio costs less to remove than one built into a raised deck. We confirm the exact price during a quick walkthrough before we start, so there's no guessing.
Before We Arrive
- Shut off the breaker or GFCI to the tub the morning of your appointment.
- If it still has water in it, drain what you can with a garden hose — we can finish draining on-site, but a head start saves time.
- Clear a path from the tub to where our truck will park, if you're able to.
What We Actually Do On-Site
We confirm the electrical is off, finish draining if needed, disconnect any remaining plumbing, break the shell down into manageable sections, and haul everything away — including the cover, skirting, and any loose equipment. We sweep the area when we're done.
Removing a Deck Along With It?
If your hot tub is built into a deck you also want gone, that's a separate add-on — see our demolition & structure removal page for how that works. We can often handle both in the same visit.
